14-0726 – In Lies Art

IJS_4005After spending most of my life in New York City, I’ve always thought of the junk I walked by or stepped over from day to day. However, after visiting the BK bridge for a shoot with an up-and-coming techno band, my perspective of NYC’s garbage has somewhat shifted. In this capture a not so beautiful baby grand piano is captured poking out of the sand under the BK bridge with the Manhattan Bridge and East River acting as a scenic backdrop. To make the piano (now garbage) pop once last time, I used the splash technique to add emphasis and bring attention to a once beautiful piece of art.

Camera Setting: Coming Soon.

  1. What comes to mind – two things- How grateful I am that my family came from Italy to Ellis island and then settled in BK years ago- second I see Billy Joel playing a baby grand singing “I’m in a NY State of Mind.” Beautiful pic

  2. I received a detailed message about the day of the shoot, including the location, address, expected whether, suggested wardrobe choices, etc. before the shoot. On the day of the shoot, everything went really well. It was very windy outside, but Dowayne kept me in great spirits and used the wind to our advantage. The whole shoot was a great experience. He gives direction, but also allows you to be creative and do what you want to do, to make the shoot your own.
Also, Dowayne has a great vision. I didn’t quite know what I wanted, but I gave him some ideas and he used the ideas I gave him and his own, to create an awesome concept map, which was basically our action plan for the shoot…..THANK YOU Dowayne!!!!
